Lighten Up...
White is a chic summer do. It's easy because it's a neutral and goes with anything. It also keeps you cool! A white dress, white sandals, jean jacket and an embellished white t-shirt are all great options.
White Dress
White dresses have been very popular this year. I like this one from Nordstrom. It's a take on a classic shirtdress, but with some fun detail.
This could be worn with sandals (white, metallic or any color since the white dress is a neutral), and accessorize with some gold jewelry, which will echo the gold buttons. However, if you're feeling a bit brave, then opt to mix both gold and silver jewelry. Either way, très chic!
Whenever you wear white, make sure you have flesh-colored undergarments. A white bra we can see, a nude one we can't. If you're having trouble finding undergarments to match your skin tone, try myskins.com, which offers lingerie in twenty different shades.
Do note that it is a faux pas to wear a white dress to a wedding. Touches of white are okay, but avoid an all white dress.
White Sandals
I like white sandals, but if you don't wear a lot of white city shorts, skirts or tops, then don't opt for white shoes. White footwear is tricky, because,
for some reason, white sandals look best when there is white somewhere else in the outfit. I can't put it into words... it's just a visual thing. However, when in doubt, choose metallic.
If you do choose white, I like this Michael by Michael Kors sandal. It has a nice shape (not too clunky) and gives you a bit of height.
White Jacket
I put a white jean jacket on this list because I find I use this a lot more than a blue jean jacket. A white jean jacket you can wear with jeans, a blue one, (even if it matches youjeans), you can't. CLICK HERE to see this faux pas on the streets.
If a jean jacket isn't your style, then any white jacket will work. This jacket on the right is from
Nordstrom and is a great casual layering piece. I picture this with city shorts or jeans for those nights, (and restaurants), that are a bit cool.
If you're looking for something with more pizazz, then this jacket on the left from Nanette Lepore is beautiful. This is a linen blend, so it's an item specific to summer, but a very fun piece!
White T-shirt
Every woman I know has a white t-shirt. Whether you just sleep in it or throw it on with everything, it's a wardrobe basic. However, this is a basic item that I believe should be stepped up a notch. Since it's easy to throw on for a trip to the grocery store or to take the dog for a walk, let's make it fun and chic shall we?
Here's a sleeveless white top from Nordstrom that has a bit of embellishment. Or, opt for something with sleeves, but with a
cutout neckline. Either option is better than just a crew or v-neck tee. Of course, those items will always works, but something with some visual interest is always great.
Whether it's just a t-shirt or a bit more, white is "in" for summer. Lighten up your wardrobe with a white dress, sandals, jacket or embellished tee and... stash a Tide to go in your purse... just in case. :)
