My Best Foot Forward

Gold, Fashion Sense and Myrrh

It’s that time of year again, when our schedules are filled with parties, holiday events and family get togethers. But before you stress out about what to wear, keep in mind that just because we deck the halls with red and green, doesn’t mean we should be wearing red and green. There is a sophisticated way to approach the holidays and for this issue of the “Monthly Fashion Update”, I have tried to focus on pieces that you may already own, or at least items that can be worn after the holidays are over.

A velvet blazer is perfect for the holidays because this isn’t limited to just special occasions. A velvet blazer looks great with jeans, or dressed up with a pair of trousers and a satin cami or lace top.

Another item that you may already have in your closet is a pair of tuxedo pants. These are very versatile as they can be worn to a black tie event, look great with a velvet blazer, lace top, or again, a satin top. However, one word of caution, as this is one of the few things that should not be worn with a white button down shirt -- it can make you look like a waitress!

However, if you do wear a white shirt, you can make it more feminine by adding a pair of sparkly earnings, shiny bracelets, or my favorite, a fun cocktail ring. These accessories go well with anything – a beautiful sweater and jeans, or they can even change the look of a little black dress. The holidays are a special time of year so this is the perfect opportunity to wear your glittest jewelry – even if it is fake!

My favorite thing to wear during the holidays is a pair of winter white pants. I love them because they go with anything. They are always elegant and it’s an easy way to give a black top a whole new life.

Winter white also works well with a metallic top. Metallics have been hot ever since the spring, but are perfect for a holiday outfit. Even a pair of shoes, headband, or purse is great as an accent piece to any outfit – especially an all black one.
