My Best Foot Forward

Wrapping Up Winter

With the warmer weather comes thoughts of spring fashion, however, this is the perfect time to actually be thinking of cold weather fashions. Now is the time to take care of items that you will need once the cold weather rolls around again, like boots, coats and sweaters.

Soon you will not be wearing these items anymore so get them fixed and have everything cleaned. Start taking any shoes that need to be re-heeled to your cobbler and look over the rest of your shoes for scuff marks and torn leather that can be patched up. This guarantees that your shoes will be in perfect condition and ready when the temperature starts to drop.

It’s also a good idea to have your coats cleaned so that stains don’t set in and then become harder to remove later. You should fix any loose buttons or replaced them if you have lost one or two.

Sweaters are also another thing that will need to be cleaned before being put away for the summer. However, do not leave the sweaters in the dry cleaner bag. You can put them in a garment bag, but leaving them in the original bag will slowly destroy the fabric.

When you store your cold weather items – especially things like wool sweaters, it’s a good idea to add lavender sachets that will help keep any little critters away that would enjoy munching on your sweaters. Plus, it keeps your sweaters smelling nice and fresh.

As you are going through your closet, deciding what needs to be cleaned, you should also pull out things that you did not wear during this last season as they will probably not be worn during the next season. I would either get rid of them now, or put them in a bag to be taken to a resale shop at the first sign of cold weather.

Now that you’ve gotten rid of things, you can also make a list of some items that you would like to add to your closet for the next winter. This way you can look for them at the beginning of the season - you will be organized and ahead of the game.

If you’re having trouble deciding what to get rid of and what you will need, then now is a good time to schedule an appointment. Your friends may be of help, but a professional is always better!
