My Best Foot Forward

Planes, Trains and Automobiles

The holidays are here and that means that usually some sort of traveling is involved. However, that doesn’t automatically have to mean sweats. You can be chic and stylish while traveling and this issue of the “Monthly Fashion Update” will tell you how.

When you’re traveling, you want to be comfortable and so one of the best ways to do that is to pick soft and fluid fabrics. You want things that move with you. Cashmere, silk or cotton are best and so is anything with a little bit of stretch. Especially if you wear a pair of jeans, you want them to have some stretch because then your clothes won’t feel too restricting.

If you don’t want to wear a pair of pants, then a skirt is an excellent option because again, it’s not too restricting and it’s extremely comfortable. If you’re in a cold climate, you could wear a fun pair of patterned tights with your skirt and some cute flats. Très chic!

Aside from flats, choose to wear something that’s easy to take off during the flight and something that’s comfortable for all the walking to and from the terminal. A fashionable pair of sneakers, soft loafers or driving moccasins would be perfect (refer to background picture).

One other important thing to consider on the plane is a wrap. However, even if you are traveling to a warm climate, it is still a good idea to take one because planes are notoriously cold. Plus you can always use your wrap as a pillow or blanket. For a cold climate, a wrap is still a “must-have” when traveling, but you could also opt to take a cashmere zip-up sweater. Soft, warm and oh so perfect for a comfortable trip.

Lastly, you need to consider your carry on. If you can, choose a carry on that you can fit your purse in so that you have less items to handle. And try to keep your carry on as small as possible. Just fill it with a few essential items like moisturizer for your hands and face, chap stick or lip gloss, travel Kleenex, a small perfume and of course the latest fashion magazine!

So remember, no one has to sacrifice style for comfort. Make your wardrobe work for you. Choose things for the plane that you can also wear sometime during your trip. The fashionable sneakers and the zip-up sweater would be great for a casual day. The wrap would look fabulous over a little black dress….which you could even pair with the patterned tights. Keep your items simple and the outfit opportunities become endless.
